DRAKES CHIPS ARE LEGENDARY…
Sorry – we do not offer any gluten free items
We are just takeaway for the immediate future – we apologize particularly as the nights draw in and the temperatures drop, but we do not have enough space inside the shop to safely distance customers and therefore have made the sad decision to not open the restaurant for the time-being.
F.A.Qs
How Do I Order From Drakes? Online via Click & Collect service at justeat.co.uk or uber eats- and please check your confirmation time so that you don’t arrive too early to pick up your food as we wish to maintain safe social distancing.
How do I get a delivery? you can use justeat.co.uk or ubereats if you live about less than a mile from Drakes. We will cook the food and our driver will bring it to you,
How does Click & Collect work? Using justeat.co.uk or ubereats – It will ask for your postcode. You can place your order and arrange to pick it up outside our front door at the allocated confirmation time given to you by justeat or uber eats
It won’t let me pre order? No, it only lets you order lunchtime for today or tomorrow, but after 4pm you can order for the evening today or tomorrow. (yes we find that frustrating too)
It’s saying delivery only, but I’d like to collect? at the beginning there is a line that says I want to collect, please click on that.
Nobody is answering your phone? sorry about that, no very sorry about that but we are a small team here at Drakes and we cannot cope with all 3 delivery tablets, cooking, packaging, delivering and operating phone orders at the same time, so we have had to stop answering the phone
When are best times to order? Well, busy times are 6.00pm to 7.30pm so outside of those hours will mean a quicker delivery, last orders are just before 8.00 pm and most days we begin taking orders by 12.00 noon
can I phone and pay for my order? Sorry not at the moment, we have no change and no credit card facility.
We hope that before too long some sense of normality will return to the shop and we can begin to welcome faces back inside, but for the moment we would like to say thank you to those loyal customers who despite the inconvenience of online ordering have continued to be just that – our loyal customers,
“The local’s word for fish & chips!”
FISH & CHIP TAKEAWAY
Drakes was opened in the early 1990’s and the core menu has remained steadfast with unusual additions added over the years. Traditional and amazingly popular North Atlantic Cod, Haddock and Plaice.
The large takeaway area regularly sees queues out the door and food is cooked to order keeping a light crispy batter.
MSC certified fish is purchased in great quantity from trawlers by our appointed agent so we can offer the best quality product at very reasonable prices. Our potato supplier is just outside Newton Abbot and delivers twice a week so we have the freshest potatoes possible.
Generations of locals know these chips which are peeled and chipped on site daily and cooked freshly throughout the day to produce a slightly softer “chip-shop” chip, delicious with lashings of salt and our special non-brewed vinegar. Our homemade mushy peas are soaked and seasoned on site daily so they are green and fresh and delicious. A mildly Chinese curry sauce is unique to Drakes and make the chips taste wonderful.
In the present uncertain circumstances we have made the decision to temporarily close the Restaurant/Eat In area of Drakes to safeguard our customers and members of staff. We hope that this virus will soon be a thing of the past, and therefore have not removed the menu from this website.

MENUS
Using a light batter mix and cooking at high temperature gives the best results, and cooking to order means everyone leaves with the freshest of fish everytime. We have invested in a high speed oven so NAKED FISH is the new buzz word… fillets of fish lightly sprayed with olive oil and Italian herbs and baked for a couple of minutes in the miracle machine produces a light and moist alternative to batter – great for those on a gluten free diet or just being extra good!
Having offered a gluten free batter option for seven years, with so many other takeaways jumping on this band-wagon our customer base dwindled to a couple of loyal customers and made the process uneconomically viable. Although Drakes no longer offers a gluten free batter option we are able to recommend the Naked fish which can be cooked with rice instead of chips.
